November 2011 Commissioned Papers
In June 2011 the EDM Forum released an open call for papers that examine current challenges and opportunities for conducting CER with prospective electronic clinical data, particularly within research networks.
The specific areas of focus included:
analytic methods;
clinical informatics;
CER and the learning healthcare system; and
data governance.
The Forum received a high number of submissions and ultimately selected a total of 14 proposals that promise to advance understanding of important analytic methods, clinical informatics, and data governance issues leveraging prospective electronic clinical data for CER and quality improvement, or consider lessons learned from QI and other efforts to use electronic clinical data for health research and clinical care.
These papers will be presented in spring 2012 at a day-long invitational symposium in Washington, D.C. The Forum is also pursuing partnership with a leading peer-reviewed journal to publish proceedings from the meeting as part of a special issue or supplement.
